Successful drilling programs incorporate the following basic steps:

• Assemble the appropriate team. Success is dependent on forming a well-experienced, qualified team who have a desire to “do it better” than anyone else.
• Engineer and plan the work in order to define and achieve “technical limit performance.” Benchmark industry performance and then develop a plan to beat that performance. G&G and Reservoir Engineering participation is essential.
• Work with suppliers, service companies and contractors to access their technology, expertise and experience, taking advantage of all available resources.
• Execute. The final step incorporates selection of the right contractors and suppliers; training and buy in to the drilling plan; and provision of excellent drill site supervision. Incentives have proven to be effective in promoting successful execution.
